Tanya, Stephen and their three children have been living at this property for the last five years. This was Stephens Granmothers home which is on over 2 acres located on the banks of the Merri River in Dennington. This home was built in the 1960's to replace his Grandmothers original home which was demolished to constuct the dennington bridge. Since moving in they have spent the last few years converting their house for family living and sustainability. They have extended the house to include a garage with a living, office, bedoom and ensuite area upstairs, this new extension has been built to capture the north sun, has cross ventilation and is well insulated from the traffic noise. the ensuite has been fitted with water saving devices and has a fatastic lookout over the merri river. The whole house has been fitted with energy saving light globes and laminated/ tinted windows. And two wood heaters are in the house to keep it warm over the cold winter months. The original berdooms have been insulated in the walls and replasted, they hope to complete their renovations over the next few years.
They have fitted a 4kw solar system, which was purchased through the city council bulk buy, solar hot water, and water tanks which will be plumbed to the house when the kitchen renovations are done, on the property they have planted more fruit trees and are currently installing no dig veggie garden beds. the two acres is maintained with the help of 5 sheep, they have chicken as well as a calf. They children are involved with the running of the property and have a great country lifestyle, while being conveniently located on the edge of the city.
