Unique Sustainable Elements featured in this home
External Walls
The house is built of hardwood framing and weatherboard with plaster and lathe inside. Cellulose insulation has been pumped into the walls by removing weatherboards, pumping in the insulation, and then replacing the weatherboards. Lead based paint is being removed with low heat infra red stripper and walls are being repainted with high quality low VOC Australian made coating.
Internal Walls
As the rooms are being renovated the walls are being painted with natural clay paints.
Roof
The roof has been replaced with new light coloured Colorbond to reflect heat with a R1 thermal blanket fitted instead of sisilation and insulation batts and cellulose fibre in the roof space.
Floor
The floors are being sanded and finished with a natural hard wax oil finish. Floor coverings are being made from Tasmanian Alpaca fibres.
Solar Power Generation
A 1Kw grid connect system has been installed on the roof
Water Heating
Electric HWS was replaced with Siddons heat pump system.
Appliances
WELS rated taps and shower heads, CFL lighting. Appliances are being replaced with low energy, efficient appliances.
Garden
The garden is being regenerated with areas of natives suitable to the Westbury area, sustainable raised vegetable beds, low water use front garden.
Other
Very little waste leaves the site. There is a very high level of recycling or reusing of materials. If they can not be re-used they are passed on in the local community.
