Environment House 125 King William St Bayswater (river end)
Environment House is a community-run eco-shop and sustainable living advisory centre. After 8 years in a Maylands shop, we moved in 2009 to this little Council-owned 60’s house, next to the Eric Singleton Bird Sanctuary and river.
Although this is far from the passive solar palace we'd love to be working in, at least we're allowed to wear uggboots to work! And we’ve had a bit of sponsorship to put in some eco-features including Marmoleum, Interflor carpet squares, Solatube, LED globes and tubes etc. With the help of Lotterywest, Green Life Soil Company, The Lawn Doctor and our wonderful permacultural gardener/gardening teacher Harry Wykman, we've established a thriving vegie garden and espalier fruit fence. We've got working worm farms (a Worm Cafe and a worm fridge) compost bays and bins and bokashi fermentation kitchen composting buckets.
As well as a great range of free info on sustainable living, building etc we've got lots of small-end eco-products on sale including:
• organic seeds and natural gardening aids.
• books & mags on green building/renovating, sustainable living, organic fruit & vegie growing, growing native gardens, WA bushwalking and nature guides.
• green cleaning products (WA made where possible)
• Power-Mates (top of the range Australian made accurate versatile power meters) and various energy saving devices
OPEN (including shop)10am-4pm on Sustainable House Day 2011.
