Concerned about the environment we are passing on to our children?
Our aim us to establish the Baw Baw shire community as a model of sustainable living.
Objectives:
To promote lifestyle, technologies, community, household and business systems that are environmentally sustainable
Increase community awareness about climate change and sustainable environmental practise
To monitor and measure progress towards achievement of sustainable practice in the community
To inform and educate the community about sustainable living practices through appropriate media
To implement community projects that promotes environmental sustainability
Current Activities:
The BBSN has commenced a wide range of activities such as energy audits, solar hot water bulk purchase, waste management programs, information articles in community newspapers and informative guest speakers at meetings.
Proposed Activities:
The BBSN is currently working on a Strategic Plan to prioritise our plans for the future. Under consideration are many ideas including a display “ecohouse”, solar energy projects, water saving programs, natural resource management, biodiversity protection, methane production at she Shire landfills, more effective use of waste water, more easily accessible information on rebates, “Did you know…What you can do…” fact sheets, promoting “green” tradespeople, a campaign to highlight and counteract misinformation, production of a magazine, energy audit promotion, community garden, reinforcing good environmental practise in commercial development, sustainability awards, wed site production and more.
