SHD 2009 Pre Event Seminar, CSIRO Discovery Centre, Optus Lecture Theatre, Canberra

The Sustainable House Day Pre-event seminar is booked in to happen on Tuesday evening, 8th September, 7.00 PM – 9.30PM at the CSIRO Discovery Centre Optus Lecture Theatre.  Admission is free, however a gold coin donation to ANZSES would be appreciated.  This year, the focus topics for discussion will be:  

An Introduction to the Seminar by ANZSES ACT President, Simon Troman

A brief overview of this year’s SHD and how we define “Sustainable Building Design”  - presented by Ric Butt (Institute of Architects Sustainability Committee) and Peter Overton (SHD Coordinator)

Development   Density in the ACT  - a look at the opportunities and problems associated with sustainable development in the expansive “Garden City”.  Speaker - David Flannery, (President ACT Chapter of Institute of Architects) plus Kelvin Walsh (Director of Planning Services, ACTPLA) with comments by Alan Kerlin from the Gungahlin Community Council  (one of our venue hosts for 2009)  

 The Feed-In-Tariff in Progress – an examination of how the new legislation is playing out in its first months of operation, and also directions for the future;  presented by Alan Traves, the ACT Government Manager for the FIT program, with further comments by a representative from Solar Shop, our major sponsor for 2009     

The Green Loans Programa brief overview of its operation to date presented by a representative from EnviroSaver Fieldforce, our teams sponsor for 2009.

Emissions Trading Legislation and the Federal Government Carbon Pollution Reduction Scheme - John Grimes, ANZSES CEO, will be covering recent developments in Federal Government Legislation.

Howard Pender from Australian Ethical Investments will be giving a talk about his experiences as an occupant of a sustainable office building and the benfits for workers and the business itself.  Trevor Pearcey House, AEI headquarters,  is open to the public on Sustainable House Day.
