Barrett House
This is a historic house left to three councils in NSW. It is to be used as a public space and so the councils decide to turn it into a showcase of sustainable ideas for retro fitting houses in the area.
Retro Fit / Showcase
Unique Sustainable Elements featured in this home
Water Harvesting Systems
Due to the small block size only rain water tanks are fitted on a flat stand located at the front of the house. There is an example of a grey water system on site however due to council regulations this can not be installed
Special Garden Features
Permaculture East will be in charge of the front garden and also the small garden located in the park opposite the house.

The construction of the house is double brick. Federation style
Internal Walls
As this is a retrofit the walls are all brick. Paint work uses all low VOC paints and the colours are Heritage.
Roof
Standard tile roof with R 3.8 insulation.
Floor
Timber floors throughout. There are a number of finishes so the public can see the differences and test the wearing effect.
