Tropical Green Building Network

The Network’s charter is to identify, develop and action projects that will have a measurable impact on the uptake of sustainable building practices in Far North Queensland. To achieve this, builders, construction service professionals, building material manufacturers, retailers, government representatives, industry and community associations and other interested stakeholders are invited to work together.

The network engages with the broader community on practical issues of concern with an underlying interest in informing and encouraging the uptake of green design, building, materials and services. Diverse perspectives, motivations and experiences of the network are ackowledged and creative solutions may be achieved and implemented. The network remains informed by sharing and learning which enhances our ability as individuals and as an organisation to maintain our commitment to sustainable building practice. The network feeds principles and experience into law and policy reform agendas aimed at enhancing sustainability particularly in tropical environments.

The network operates collaboratively with related organisations including Cairns and Far North Environment Centre (CAFNEC), FNQ Regional Sustainable Initiative, Centre of Excellence in Tropical Design Townsville (CETD), Cairns Regional Council Urban Design Advisory Board, Housing Industry Association (HIA), Australian Green Development Forum (AGDF) and others on the understanding that we have no desire to duplicate their work but wish to support and inform their efforts

The network is a not-for profit voluntary group operating as a democratic, respectful, open and accountable body of professionals.
The Network meets at the Cairns City Library on the first Wednesday nigth of every month from 5.30 to 7.30 pm.
