Hilton Harvest Community Garden
Hilton Harvest Community Garden was initiated in 2009 by a group of residents Hilton, Western Australia. Even though the actual site of the garden has yet to be finalized by the local council, the community behind this initiative is actively engaged in all aspects of sustainable living.
The garden project has evolved into a vision of community gardening at its best with wonderful possibilities for all Hilton residents.
We foresee a beautiful place celebrating life, peace and natural beauty - a garden that will encourage people to come together and share diverse approaches to life. We hope to create opportunities for members of our community to cooperate in achieving common goals in an environment free from prejudice.
Hilton Harvest Community Garden will provide a forum for interaction between young and old residents, facilitating a sharing of knowledge and strengthening community cohesion. We believe it is important not to underestimate the physical and mental health benefits associated with such a project.
Hilton Harvest Community Garden will be managed by a dedicated group of community gardeners, formalised as a committee whose responsibilities will include physical works, maintenance and administration of the site, finance and media, grant and sponsorship applications.
At present, the group is actively organizing and participating in events to raise the profile of the garden project as well as to create a sense of engagement from the community. Our last event which was a fundraising festival in May was a huge success. We plan to hold yearly festivals coinciding with harvest and planting seasons so that we can continue to create the space for people to come together to exchange produce and ideas, and enjoy being part of the community.
As such, Hilton Harvest Community Group is looking forward to being involved in the Sustainable House Day. If anyone is interested in becoming a member of the community garden or can offer some form of assistance, please email us at hiltonharvest@yahoo.com.au
